The Liepāja 2027 Ambassadors are professionals across various fields, respected and recognized figures, charismatic personalities, and community leaders from across Latvia. They include leaders from local communities, as well as active individuals within the Creative Land of (un)rest – Liepāja City, South Kurzeme, and Kuldīga regions. These are people who are trusted not only by their colleagues, but also by the broader community on local, national, and international levels. The title of Ambassador is not just an honour, but also a mark of competence. The Liepāja 2027 Ambassadors are classified into two categories (levels):
The Liepāja 2027 Ambassador Programme is honoured to have the President of Latvia, H.E. Edgars Rinkēvičs, as its patron
Fostering a strong sense of connection and belonging to the Liepāja 2027 project among the people of the Creative Land of (un)rest, encouraging personal engagement and participation
Strengthening the people’s loyalty and sense of belonging to Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture
Boosting confidence and pride among the public
Praising and highlighting the local people and professionals from different sectors
Raising the reputational profile of Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture 2027, to bolster the image of the city
The Ambassador Programme offers a variety of activities, with each ambassador taking on specific tasks based on their expertise and available capacity. These activities are voluntary and unpaid and may include:
In 2025, the programme will expand to invite anyone with ideas and vision to promote Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture to join as a Liepāja 2027 Ambassador.

The program is being implemented with the financial support provided by the Liepāja City Council, the Dienvidkurzeme Municipality, the Kuldīga Municipality, as well as the Ministry of Culture.
On 10 May, the European Capital of Culture – Liepāja 2027 – gathered its newest addition to the ambassadors’ team for their very first meeting. Thirty-two energetic and inspiring individuals from Liepāja, Kuldīga and South Kurzeme came together, having earned their title through a highly competitive selection process.
To promote Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture in 2027, the Foundation “Liepāja 2027” officially launched the Liepāja 2027 Ambassadors Programme on Saturday, 28 September, during a vibrant event in the city.
Marking International Volunteer Day, the President participated in a discussion with volunteers of the “Liepāja 2027” foundation who have applied to assist in carrying out various cultural activities.

The individuals selected as Liepāja 2027 Ambassadors are established leaders in their respective fields, chosen for their professional expertise and experience, which can significantly enrich our programme. Many of these Ambassadors have a deep personal connection to Liepāja or the surrounding region, fostering a sense of belonging. They represent various sectors and bring valuable insight, advice, and networks that will contribute to the success and diversity of the Liepāja 2027 European Capital of Culture project.
In the spring of 2025, we embarked on the exciting journey to expand our family of Ambassadors through the competitive application process. We invited individuals from Liepāja, South Kurzeme and Kuldīga into the fold, sharing our vision and enthusiasm for what lies ahead. These people would be the heartbeat of our mission, energizing Liepāja 2027 at the city, county or regional levels, building bridges of awareness and inspiring local communities to embrace and engage in this extraordinary cultural movement.
Anyone, who is passionate about the Liepāja 2027 values and mission and has inspiring ideas to promote Liepāja, Kuldīga and South Kurzeme Region as a European Capital of Culture are more than welcome to join.
You can also nominate a colleague, friend, or acquaintance for the Ambassador title, as long as they agree to be a part of the program.

We shall evaluate applications quarterly, and new ambassadors will be selected through a competitive process.
To apply, please provide the following:
– A motivation statement (up to 400 words) explaining why you wish to become a Liepāja 2027 Ambassador.
– A short video introduction (up to 1 minute) about yourself.
Once your application is submitted, you will receive individual feedback regarding the next steps.
The programme will run from autumn 2024 to May 2028, with the potential for it to evolve into a long-term loyalty programme for the Creative Land of (un)rest, continuing after the conclusion of Liepāja 2027 as the European Capital of Culture.
While the Liepāja 2027 programme is created by a dedicated team of paid professionals from the Foundation, the role of the Ambassadors is consultative. They provide support in areas such as communication, programme and capacity building, contributing their expertise and perspectives.
Participation in the Ambassador Programme is voluntary. Each Ambassador takes on specific activities based on their competencies and interests, including sharing their knowledge and experience, attending cultural and artistic events, participating in educational programmes in schools and universities, and assisting in the promotion of Liepāja 2027.
